America 250: The 14th Colony

Discover Florida’s surprising role in the American Revolution through America 250: The 14th Colony, a special exhibition exploring the territory’s unique place in the nation’s founding story.

While thirteen colonies declared independence, Florida remained loyal to the British Crown. Guest curated by Smithsonian Scholar Martha Gutierrez-Steinkamp, the exhibition examines this often-overlooked chapter of history through historic imagery, Revolutionary War artifacts from local collectors, period costumes on loan from The Wick Theatre and Costume Museum, interpretive displays, and more.

Part of the Boca Raton Historical Society’s America 250 initiative, The 14th Colony invites visitors to explore the people, conflicts, and international influences that shaped Florida during the Revolutionary era.
