Boca Raton Pioneer Era

Step back to the days when Boca Raton was a small farming settlement carved out of South Florida’s wilderness. This exhibit explores the lives of the area’s earliest settlers, farmers, railroad workers, and community builders who shaped Boca Raton in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Through historic photographs, artifacts, personal belongings, and interactive displays, visitors will discover how pioneer families lived and worked, the impact of Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway, the growth of local agriculture, and the unique stories of the Yamato Japanese colony and Pearl City, Boca Raton’s historic African American community. Together, these stories reveal the diverse people and experiences that helped create the city we know today.

The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum is home to the Boca Raton Historical Society’s History Alive! exhibits, which shares the story of Boca Raton. In addition to these permanent exhibits, rotating temporary exhibits are on display.
