IBM Exhibit

Discover how Boca Raton became an unexpected center of technological innovation. This exhibit explores the history of IBM’s Boca Raton campus, from its arrival in the 1960s to the development and launch of the IBM Personal Computer (PC) in 1981—an invention that helped transform the modern world.

Through historic photographs, original IBM computers, artifacts, and interactive displays, visitors will learn how a team of engineers in Boca Raton created the IBM PC, how the company shaped the city’s growth and economy, and why Boca Raton earned a reputation as South Florida’s own “Silicon Beach.”

The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum is home to the Boca Raton Historical Society’s History Alive! exhibits, which shares the story of Boca Raton. In addition to these permanent exhibits, rotating temporary exhibits are on display.
