World War II in Boca Raton

Learn how a small farming town became a vital part of the Allied war effort during World War II. This exhibit explores the history of the Boca Raton Army Air Field (BRAAF), the nation’s only wartime airborne radar training base, and the thousands of servicemen and women who passed through Boca Raton between 1942 and 1947.

Through historic photographs, artifacts, personal stories, and interactive displays, visitors will learn about the secret world of radar training, German U-boat activity off Florida’s coast, life on the home front, and the lasting impact the military base had on the growth and development of Boca Raton.

The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum is home to the Boca Raton Historical Society’s History Alive! exhibits, which shares the story of Boca Raton. In addition to these permanent exhibits, rotating temporary exhibits are on display.
