Our timeline explains the remarkable transformation of Boca Raton from an ancient coastal landscape inhabited by Native peoples to the vibrant city it is today. Through historic photographs, artifacts, maps, and personal stories, visitors journey through more than 2,000 years of local history.
The exhibit highlights the area’s earliest inhabitants, pioneer settlers, farming communities, the Florida land boom, Addison Mizner’s ambitious vision for Boca Raton, World War II and the Boca Raton Army Air Field, postwar growth, the rise of Florida Atlantic University and IBM, downtown redevelopment, and the city’s emergence as a modern South Florida destination.
Featuring rare artifacts, historic images, and iconic objects from Boca Raton’s past, the exhibit offers an engaging look at the people, places, and events that shaped the community across generations.
The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum is home to the Boca Raton Historical Society’s History Alive! exhibits, which shares the story of Boca Raton. In addition to these permanent exhibits, rotating temporary exhibits are on display.
